Test purchase operation Sutton

Test purchase operation Sutton

Today, officers from Sutton North carried out a test purchase operation across the borough in partnership with Sutton Police Cadets and Trading Standards. During the operation, police officers and cadets visited a number of local shops, where a young person attempted to purchase age-restricted items, including fireworks, alcohol and vapes.

Encouragingly, the majority of retailers challenged the cadet and requested proof of age and the declined the sale.  Three shops visited, sold age-restricted products to an individual under 18 without asking for identification.

Trading Standards will now be following up with these businesses, and further test purchase operations will take place over the coming months.
